Hooker’s House Bourbon is an exciting new Bourbon, born in Kentucky and matured in Sonoma Valley’s wine country by Prohibition Spirits, a new line of boutique distilled spirits from the creators of HelloCello. After spending time in a Kentucky Rick House, the Bourbon was double barreled and additionally aged in neutral Pinot Noir barrels here in Sonoma, California. Prohibition Spirits has combined the best of both worlds for a truly remarkable first of its kind American spirit from wine country.

The process of finishing the Bourbon in Pinot Noir barrels produces a never before tasted premium class of Bourbon. Because the Bourbon is from a recipe of 54% corn and 46% rye, it is perfectly balanced between sweet and savory. Our Bourbon has notes of dried apricot, cherry, violet, vanilla and subtle hints of dark fruit. Hooker’s House Bourbon is bottled at the General’s strength of 100 proof (50% ABV) in handsome 750ml bottles.

Hooker’s House Bourbon honors the infamous General Joseph Hooker, a Civil War Veteran, Sonoma resident, lady’s man and whiskey aficionado. The bold and spicy character of the Bourbon is matched by the General’s sometimes outrageous and overindulging lifestyle. Story be told that his women were called the “Hooker Girls”. The word “Girls” was dropped and this is how the term Hooker’s came about.

Using a two-step barrel aging process, the spirited folks making Sonoma’s own Hooker’s House Bourbon import the good stuff from Kentucky distilleries, then age it in hand-picked pinot noir barrels for a flavor that’s entirely unique. The four-year-old bourbon “finished” for nine months imparting subtle wine and oak flavors and nuances. According to creator Fred Groth of HelloCello/Prohibition Spirits, the result is deep flavors of coffee, caramel, black cherry, vanilla and baking spices.

So what’s with the name? Let’s turn our history books back a page to General Joseph Hooker, a Civil War veteran best known for his love of stiff drinks and friendly ladies. Hooker’s House Bourbon refers to the handsome soldier’s Sonoma home and is also, of course, a cheeky reference to the frisky gals Hooker brought along during some of his military campaigns to raise morale among the men. Among other things. These agreeable ladies became known as “Hooker’s Brigade” and later, just “Hookers”.

At 100-proof there’s not doubt this is one stiff drink. Just the way the captain would have wanted it.

“Thyme for a Fig” cocktail at Angele Restaurant & Bar is a super refreshing summer cocktail.  Gin, Thyme and our sassy new FigCello.  Easy to make and easy to drink.

A fantastic Brunch or anytime cocktail.  Muddled fresh mint, oregano and Limoncello di Sonoma.  Strained and topped with Prosecco.

Ingredients:

1oz Limoncello di Sonoma

2oz Tequila

3 Strawberries

2 Basil leaves

Squeeze of fresh lemon

½ oz Simple syrup

2oz Club Soda

Directions:

Muddle Strawberries and basil.  Add remaining ingredients in an ice filled cocktail shaker and shake vigorously.  Pour into a tall glass and top with club soda.
